AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Eureka CA
1224 AM PDT Sat Jul 26 2025
.SYNOPSIS...Thunderstorm chances drop off for the weekend. Near
normal to slightly below normal temperatures expected into early
next week. Temperatures trend slightly upward towards the later
parts of next week.
&&
.DISCUSSION...The upper low that brought convection to mostly
Trinity County on Friday moves to the east Saturday, taking most
mid-level moisture with it. As a result, thunderstorm chances
significantly decline into the weekend; however, isolated
thunderstorms could still occur in the afternoon to evening hours
in the Trinity Horn region both Saturday and Sunday with chances
significantly less on Sunday.
Late this weekend and into the middle of next week, high pressure
is expected to generally remain east of the area. This will keep
temperatures near seasonal normals with highs in the upper 80s to
low 90s. Coastal stratus is expected to form each night during
this time with the potential for some clearing into the
afternoons. Thunder potential generally looks to remain low.
Ensembles are hinting at another upper-low forming right off the
coast, which may return thunderstorm chances by mid next week.
This thunderstorm potential will be monitored.
&&
.AVIATION...Extensive stratus offshore over the ocean will likely
keep coastal terminals under IFR to LIFR conditions through the
morning hours. Confidence in complete afternoon clearing is low.
Low clouds and IFR ceilings will probably persist near or over
coastal aerodromes. Some scattering out may eventually occur late in
the day, however stratus and IFR conditions will probably build back
quickly during the evening hours, so any improvement is probably
going to be brief.
VFR conditions are expected to continue over the inland areas with
wrap around mid to high level convective debris clouds through early
Saturday. Otherwise, cumulus is forecast to build again during the
day with light to moderate turbulence near convective cells. Also,
low level clouds and IFR conditions will be possible for the coastal
valleys Saturday morning. Recent rainfall in the valleys of Trinity
County may result in brief LIFR due to early morning fog.
&&
.MARINE...A weak pressure gradient between an offshore ridge and
an inland trough will keep winds gentle to moderate through the
weekend. Northerlies will accelerate around Cape Mendocino and
result in a narrow band of gusts around 30 kt through Saturday. Seas
around 3 to 5 feet are expected, with the lowest waves expected
nearest the coast. The sea state will be dominated by 2 to 5 foot
wind waves and a small long period southerly swell. Northerly winds
are forecast to increase early to mid next week, strongest over the
outer waters and in the lee of Cape Mendocino.
&&
.EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
CA...
None.
NORTHWEST CALIFORNIA COASTAL WATERS...
None.
